Access to the first year is free and no pre-requisites are requested. The course is strongly recommended to the students of one of the following IISC courses:
Latin 1
Latinitas Viva 1
Latin 1 Online
Latin Telematic
Students who are enrolled at one of the aforementioned courses can get a discount of € 100.
Objectives
- Ability to speak in Latin, using sentences of medium-high difficulty
- Ability to write in Latin, using sentences of medium-high difficulty
- In-depth knowledge and active use of all the most fundamental structures of Latin syntax and grammar
Program
This course aims at providing the skills needed to be fluent in Latin and the skills needed to produce a written text in Latin, following the language structure of Classical Latin. From the very first lessons, under the guidance of the lecturer, will learn to speak. From the very beginning, the class will write short texts of medium difficulty so as to reach, at the end of the course, full active competence of the language.
The goal of the teaching activities, as for all the IISC courses, is literary: the ability to speak and to write texts in Latin and to imitate the authors’ style and language aim at consolidating the current reading ability of the classics and provide greater awareness of the richness of the language.
The course will be held in live streaming: students will enter the virtual classroom through a link given by the IISC. Lessons in streaming will be recorded and they will stay available for the students to see for a week.

3. Excerpts (provided by the instructor) of Latin Classical texts.
– Students who have attended at least 75% of class hours may obtain a course completion certificate.
Because of an agreement between the Italian Institute of Classical Studies (IISC) and the Classics Faculty of the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) – whose titles are recognized by Italian universities – the credits issued at the IISC are automatically aknowledged for the students enrolled at the UPS and may be validated at the Italian universities (without prejudice to the discretion granted to the universities by the Italian law).
– The course is also recognized by the MIUR – Regional School Office for Lazio as valid for the professional training of teaching staff.

Instructor
Angelica Di Placido teaches Latin Composition and Greek Composition at the Italian Institute of Classical Studies.
She completed the School of Higher Studies in Latin and Greek at the Italian Institute of Classical Studies. She studied Classics at Pontifical Salesian University of Rome.
