Admission
Access to the first year is free and no pre-requisite is requested.
Objectives:
– Ability to read a text in Sanskrit and in devanāgarī
– Knowledge of the most important grammatical structures of Sanskrit language;
– Ability to understand and transita a short text in the original language;
– Knowledge of the basic vocabulary.
Program:
The course aims to introduce students to a step by step learning of the most important grammatical structure of Sanskrit. After an introduction to Sanskrit language and devanāgarī alfhabet, lessons will focus on Sanskrit phonetic system, nouns and verbs, up to some initial remarks on syntax. Through the Sanskrit grammar exercises which can be found in the textbook, at the end of the course students will be able to read in devanāgarī, and they will also be able to read and translate sentences and short passages into Italian.
The course will be held in classroom. However, participants who had requested it in the online subscription to the course, may join a virtual classroom and follow the lessons remotely, through a link given by the IISC. Lessons in streaming will be recorded and will stay available for the students to see for a week.

Students who have attended at least 75% of class hours may obtain a course completion certificate.
Upon the completion of the course, students who have attended at lest the 75% of class hours, may access the course Sanskrit 2.
